Individual Tutoring

The point of individual tutoring is to provide the student with highly customized interaction with the material they are having difficulty with. This type of interaction can be used to help failing students or improve the performance of students who wish to do better than they currently are or to help students prepare for AP exams. It can add structure and direction to a students approach to the topic or add detail and special relevance to the topic that isn't being provided in the classroom.

The goal of individual tutoring is to provide the student with resources and information that is not provided in as accessible a manner elsewhere.  The ultimate goal creates excitement, interest and energy in the student about the subject, which in turn leads to an increased capacity in the subject.

Just can't seem to be able to get your homework done? You can do the work in class just fine but at home it all seems new different and unlike anything you've ever done before? Then getting individual help with your homework might be all that you need. I can help you to focus on the homework at hand, give you tips and tricks for getting all that dreaded homework done more quickly! The goal of homework help is to help you find out what is preventing your form succeeding on your own and fix those issues, so that after a few sessions you know that you can handle any homework assignment in any subject!

Small Group Tutoring

Small group tutoring (2-4 students) offers many of the same advantages that individual tutoring does but since a group of students is involved the level of customization and the amount of time that I can focus on your child exclusively is limited.  The big gain is that the cost is less per student.

The goal of small group tutoring is to provide the students with resources and information that meet their common needs. Part of the goal is to find aspects of the subject that are exciting and interesting to all the students and use that to energize the students toward better overall performance as well as teach them how to help one another.

Small Classes

Small Classes differ from small group tutoring in three ways. First, the material presented is controlled more precisely, that is the session is organized like a lecture. Second, due to the larger class size much less customization is possible. Third, the material presented is likely to require the students practice the material outside of class.

These classes can be used in homeschool situations where there is a need or interest in complex or advanced subjects. For example: Calculus, Fractal Geometry, Quantum Mechanics, C++ or Java Programming. Homeschool classes can be crafted to meet state and local credit guidlines.

Drop in Tutoring

Drop in sessions can be used either as an emergency session or for quick problem resolution.  While I normally set aside a specific block of time for a student to meet with me, with drop in tutoring I will be in the Kirkland Library at specific times and my students find me.  While I might work with a student one-on-one, I may in fact be working with multiple students in multiple subjects at one time.
